Stockholm based pianist Daniel Westin has been heard in experimental indie band Humfree Bug Art and later live with Stockholm duo Grapell, both residing on Swedish label Strangers Candy. Now Daniel Westin debuts with his own instrumental piano quartet, creating melodic Scandinavian soundscapes on the album ”Notes”.

The music moves in a melancholy and barren landscape, nevertheless without optimism. The music speaks of hope for a better world, balanced by equal parts sadness and darkness. Daniel Westin Quartet makes pop music, but in a jazz costume signed producer Åke Linton.

– “Notes” is about striving against your own medium, and I have always strived for simplicity. What is not being played is as important as what is being played, if not more, Daniel Westin says about the album.
